Special Occasion Smocking

Hand smocking is a traditional, skilled and time consuming form of embroidery.  Each garment Rosalind makes is individual and unique.

Rosalind especially enjoys making garments for special occasions using luxurious Dupion Silk.  The rich colours of the silk seem to be intensified by the textural nature of the finely worked smocking.  For these garments the smocking is further enhanced by additional surface embroidery in the form of french knots and bullion stitch rosebuds.

Rosalind's special occasion smocking is usually done to commission and she is happy to work to your particular requirements.  She only needs to know the child's age, the chest measurement and the finished length required for the garment (from nape of neck to hem).

The colours of Dupion silk available for commissioned special occasion smocked garments are as follows:
White, Ivory (shown centre below)
Vanilla, Old Gold, Mercury, Copper (sorry, no longer available), Ginger/Royal, Jade Green, Blue/Grey, Pewter, Black, Burgundy/Black, Scarlet and Aubergine (shown left to right below)

Garments are made to order and are sent by the Royal Mail Special Delivery service, usually within 4-6 weeks of receiving the order.

For commissioned work Rosalind charges an hourly rate, in addition to the cost of the material but she is able to provide an overall estimate for your guidance.

Please feel free to contact Rosalind to discuss your particular requirements.
